The Breaking Waves was commissioned by Carnegie Hall for Joyce DiDonato and David Zobel and premiered in New York in March 2011. Two of the songs from The Breaking Waves received their West Coast premiere as part of SongFest (Pepperdine University, California) in June 2011.
