Dorothy Rudd Moore

1940 -
Both a composer and a singer, Dorothy Rudd Moore has written dozens of vocal works, including her opera Frederick Douglass, for which she also wrote the libretto.


Born in New Castle, Delaware, Dorothy Rudd Moore studied at Howard University and then with Nadia Boulanger at the American Conservatory at Fontainebleau as well as Chou Wen-chung in New York. She has taught at several institutions in New York City including Harlem School for the Arts and New York University.
